QOTD #01 – Three Days Grace

QOTD #01 - Three Days Grace

There are several interpretations of this quote and this song. The most common interpretation is that No More is a love song and that there’s fear in a friendship or a relationship. Not because they’re scared to lose each other, but because they’re scared of each other (“Give me a reason to stay here / ‘Cause I don’t wanna live in fear”). And what’s the actual meaning of friendship or love when you’re afraid of the other person? This song is about that you can’t live with the other person anymore because you just don’t want to live in fear, which comes from the other person.

Is there a way to solve fear for each other? The easiest answer is to just end the friendship and leave each other, but is that possible? If it would’ve been that easy it’d probably already happened. But why would you continue a friendship when you fear the other person? Because you’re scared he’ll do something to you when you end it? Because you might regret it when you end the friendship? But is it still worth to continue it when you live in fear? As the lyrics say, “Give me a reason to stay here / ‘Cause I don’t wanna live in fear”. The answer could be found in the song “Maybe” from Sick Puppies: “Maybe it’s time to change and leave it all behind. I’ve never been one to walk alone, I’ve always been scared to try. So why does it feel so wrong to reach for something more? To wanna live a better life, what am I waiting for? ‘Cause nothing stays the same, maybe it’s time to change.” This song is very useful at every difficult decision you have to make in your life, also at something complex like friendship. The lyrics of the song “A Beautiful Indifference” from Rise Against are very helpful at friendship issues as well. The sentences “Sometimes the cold hearts aren’t worth the love or the hate. Learn to let go, learn to walk away.” may be helpful in tough situations as well, although these sentences already give a value judgement about the situation and the behaviour of the other person. But it still might be useful.

Another, more general, interpretation of this quote is that it’s about the world we live in nowadays. Although this song is from 2009, the quote is still relevant. There are many things going on in the world that causes fear, and it may let us ask ourselves, as the quote already says, where do we actually stand for?

In ‘Quote of the Day’ we give attention to the lyrics of a song, focused on one or a few sentences. In this way we want to let you think about the lyrics and we hope it inspires you. We also give some interpretations about it, but feel free to interpret it your own way.
